October 2007 Newsletter
The month of October was a great one with two Great Dad Seminars combined with One Day With God Camps on Saturday following the seminars. These took place in Taylorsville and Greenville, North Carolina.
The seminar and camp in Taylorsville were in Alexander Correctional, where I meet with a group of fathers on the second Tuesday of each month. The staff at Alexander tells me that this program has made a tremendous difference in the conduct of these fathers. We are seeing God change lives one at a time. Twenty individuals prayed to receive Christ during the weekend of events.
The seminar and camp in Greenville were sponsored by Jarvis United Methodist Church. This church not only hosted the weekend, but they paid for the seminar and camp for the families. I praise God for individuals like this as not many churches are willing to open their doors to a group of incarcerated men. They served the dads lunch on Friday and served it on china. They treated the dads like royalty. It’s such a blessing to see a church practicing what Jesus taught throughout the New Testament. They will be rewarded for the gift they gave. Twenty-three individuals prayed to receive Christ.
PRAISE GOD!!
Through collaborating partners such as Prison Fellowship, Child Evangelism, Great Dads, Forgiven Ministries and local churches like Jarvis United Methodist, God is working to begin breaking the cycle of children following in their parents’ footsteps.
Pray for God to raise up volunteers as he opens the doors for monthly fathering programs after we complete the seminars. I believe this gives us the opportunity to mentor the dads. Through the fathering programs, dads stay in contact with their children through cards and award certificates. The dads can be aware of the needs of their children and what’s going on in their lives, and the volunteers can pray for the children.
I want to thank each of you whom God uses to make this ministry possible. Without each of you it would impossible for us to share the Good News of Christ. You know this already, but one day in Heaven the people we share with may say to you, It’s because you cared that I’m here.
Continue to pray for Ouida and myself as we seek to serve Him. Continue to pray for the dads, children and their caregivers that God will bring about change in their relationship with Him first and healing in these families. Pray for God to place mentors in the lives of the dads and their children to disciple them. Continue praying for God to bring along those He wants to be part of this ministry.
